5 Tips on Crafting Great Social Media Content

Catalyst Agents Crafting Great Social Media Content

Here are our 5 tips on creating great social media content:

  1. Consistent brand tone and voice. A great content generator who understands your brand persona is important because they establish your personality online. Customers may connect with them first before they ever connect with your sales team, so make sure the brand tone and voice are consistent on all social channels. Don't make it a game of telephone when you try to convey your brand tone and voice, write down the key characteristics of your brand. If you want to own the word 'innovation' in your industry, all of your content online should be geared towards securing that position for you.

  2. Consistent look and feel across channels - this means one person should lead the design look and feel, don't try to crowdsource visuals from the entire team - it will look like a mishmash that will likely not be visually appealing, which is what online is all about.

  3. Clear Content Hierarchy and Deployment. To avoid driving yourself crazy creating drastically different content for each of your social media channels, make the most of your content by having a clear content hierarchy - can a piece that you wrote for the blog be broken down into 5 tweets, 2 instagram posts and 1 Facebook post to drive traffic to your website?

  4. Regular Activity. If you work in a big team and 5 people need to approve the content before it goes out, give them enough time to turnaround the content for you. On social, time is of an essence, so get the team to agree on a 24-48 hour turnaround maximum so you are posting timely information on your social channels.

  5. Track, Analyze and Use Your Stats. If you aren't already tracking and analyzing the statistics on each of your social channels, you should take a closer look. Use your stats to make your content better and more relevant to your target audience. For example, if you see that shots of furniture outperform shots of people on your Instagram feed by 3X consistently, then you know you should create more furniture posts to generate higher engagement from your community. If you see that your followers are mostly in the art community but you are in tech, then you need to figure out how you can craft content to attract more people from the tech industry to follow you. Use your stats to help you make better decisions - it's a very old tip, but a very useful one.
